Attitude, it’s up to YOU!

Attitude

“Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior.

Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits.

Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values.

Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.”-Ghandi

How you act, react, and respond doesn’t just have the ability to catalyze problems with you, it creates problems for the ones around you!

When you or your athlete react to something that has been said or that has been done to you, you control how you react, how you let it affect you, and how you allow it to affect the ones around you. If you or your athlete reacts negatively, it will create negative energy and cause a lack in progression and tension among the team. Choose to react positively! It is by no means easy to always react in a positive way, but it is a way of choosing to be strong, choosing what you allow to control you, and choosing how it will affect you. Choose to react positively!

When you or your athlete responds, it creates the ability to control your options as well as your choices. Take a deep breath, and respond how YOU choose. You are in control of what you say and how you say it. If you choose to respond disrespectfully, it will only create a bigger issue mentally and within the relationship of your team. If you choose to respond respectfully with a good attitude, you may get further in fixing a problem, perspective, or issue that has come up. Choose to respond positively!

We, and our athletes have all reacted and responded in a negative or disrespectful way at some point in our lives. WE ARE HUMAN! It happens. But we should realize that it is extremely important that we look for the good in the situation, to see through another perspective, and to put ourselves in the shoes of the person speaking, critiquing, confronting, correcting, or asking us questions. How we respond, react, and act in any circumstance has the ability to control the situation, issue, problem, our emotions, our thoughts, and our behavior. Don’t allow yourself or your athlete to fall negatively every time they are put in a tough or scary situation. Help them choose to respond and react in a manner of positivity, a manner that will help them not only on their team, but in life. We are all capable of choosing how we allow ourselves to react and respond and how we allow the entire situation to control us. WE CHOOSE, don’t ever allow someone else to choose for you!

“When you can’t control what’s happening, challenge yourself to control the way you respond to what’s happening. That’s where your power is!”
